You guys, I was so PUMPED when Ali agreed to answer some questions for my blog! I’m a huge fan and loved learning more about her and her books. 💕 She’s hilarious! Check it out below 👇
Hi Ali! The Love Hypothesis is one of my all-time favorite rom coms! I know it blew us all away and I can’t believe it was your debut! Can you tell us how this book came to be?
In a Star Wars fic exchange, a friend mentioned that they wanted to read a fake dating fic. I had recently watched To All The Boys, so I was in a fake-dating mood and I took the prompt!
Tell us your connection to women in STEM!
I have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, and I’ve been in STEM academia in various roles for about 10 years now.
What was your favorite scene to write in The Love Hypothesis? (without spoilers of course 😍)
The sunscreen scene (because I love to see my characters suffer!!)
Of the 3 novellas you wrote, do you have a favorite?
Below Zero! I just really like the idea of a love interest who’ll drop anything to go save the person he loves, even if she’s stuck in a crevasse in the Arctic…
How long have you been writing?
For about five years! I started write fan fiction a few months after seeing Star Trek Beyond at the movies…
Do you have a stand-out, amazing, or crazy moment after becoming a published author?
This summer I got to go to Brazil for a mini book tour and it was one of the most amazing experiences ever! I got to meet tons of amazing people and eat delicious food and had an absolute blast!
What does a day of writing look like for you?
Lately: I wake up, decide that today I’m going to write a ton of words and be super productive, then about twelve hours later I realize that I spent my entire day watching k drama and did not, in fact, write any words, and despair about absolute lack of self-control!
What do you do to celebrate after finishing a book (writing one not reading one 🤣 ).
By spending weeks in a flurry of panic and anxiety that it’s not good enough. And with a milkshake!
What are a few books you would recommend to anyone?!
The Heart of Blade Duology by Sherry Thomas
The Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh
A Caribbean Heiress in Paris by Adriana Herrera
If You Ask Me by Libby Hubscher
Pride and Protest by Nikki Payne (out November 2022)
What are some of your hobbies?
I love to crochet while watching K-Drama!
Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
I have a beautiful, graceful, intelligent grey cat who walks in beauty (Bernie) and then an orange cat who’s also there (Hux) and I would die for either of them.
How would you describe your personality?
Awkward, anxious, and loud.
Tell us a fun fact we may not know about you!
As a kid, I was on a water polo team (though I was never very good at it…)
Finally, I’m dying to read Love on the Brain (coming 8/22)!!! For those who aren’t familiar with it, can you give us a synopsis?
Aaaa, it’s sooo close!! LOTB is the story of a neuroscientist who finds herself having to co-lead a very important NASA project with an engineer with whom she has a past.
Thank you so so much Ali for taking the time to answer some questions and giving us a peek into the woman behind the books! I love that I’m not the only one who thinks they are awkward and anxious 😂. And water polo sounds awesome and ridiculously hard! P.S. Definitely don’t feel panicked or anxious about Love on the Brain coming out-we all already love you and know it’s going to be great! 🤩
Ya’ll, that sunscreen scene though…🔥 IYKYK!
